The theory of general relativity is important in the study of cosmology, singularities, and the structure of space-time. Members of the Center and Physics Department explore its implications for astrophysics, particularly in the construction of models of the universe. Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) in all its aspects -- from formal theoretical issues to hadron physics phenomenology and supersymmetric extensions -- is another research interest of the theory group; research topics include radiative corrections in QCD that are essential for testing the theory, lattice gauge calculations, quark confinement, new stable hadrons such as predicted by SUSY, and non-perturbative phenomena in QCD and super-Yang Mills.

Electroweak theory and beyond the standard model physics is another very important area of research: precision tests of the Standard Model and extensions, model-building creating new paradigms (e.g., extradimensional theories), flavor physics, and supersymmetry.
